Joey Barton is training with former club Burnley as he attempts to improve his fitness.
The 34-year-old midfielder left the Turf Moor club in May and joined Scottish club Rangers on a free transfer for two years in the summer.
But he had his contract with the Ibrox outfit terminated[1] following a training ground altercation in September.
Barton helped Premier League Burnley win the Championship title last season and was the club’s player of the year.
“Joey has been in with us training, with us, to get himself fit, not with the first team,” Clarets boss Sean Dyche told the Burnley Express.[2]
“Beyond that, anything else is for the future, he’s just getting himself fit.”
Former Manchester City and Newcastle United player Barton was given a one-match suspension for breaking Scottish Football Association rules on gambling during his time north of the border.
The ban will apply should he find another club in the United Kingdom because of an agreement between the home nations.
