Sampdoria coach Vincenzo Montella has had his faith repaid with a 2-0 win over Palermo at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday.
The 41-year-old watched his team earn their first victory in nine matches which he hopes will unlock their full potential.
“My team desperately wanted to win and we achieved it,” Mancini told reporters at the post-match press conference.
“I have always had faith in my boys, the confidence that Sampdoria has been lacking.
“We deserved to win and I have seen a team which is growing with great camaraderie.
“After the draw against Lazio we were able to remove some of our fear and we played a great match against AC Milan in the cup.
“We are a serious project which has not started very well but we are growing.”
The victory is Montella’s first at the helm of the Blucerchiati who go into the Christmas break in 14th position in Serie A.
