Maribor v Liverpool- 19.45 GMT kickoff
Liverpool travel to Maribor in a group that is proving tighter than many anticipated. The know they need to make a serious challenge for the top now and anything other than 3 points here will be a major blow. In fact, there’s only a point between the two team at present and Liverpool need to put daylight between themselves and the lower teams at this stage.
Liverpool’s away form is suspect. Indeed, they were held by Spartak Moscow in their previous Champions League away game.
Maribor aren’t in the best of form, however and their 3-0 defeat by Sevilla was pretty comprehensive. The first home game saw a draw against Spartak Moscow and this will be tougher for them.
Having said that, Maribor have a good home record. They have lost only 1 of their last 27 home matches in all competitions and shouldn’t be underestimated.
Maribor could have every player available and are expected to play in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Marcos Tavares the lone striker. Liverpool on the other hand are expected to be without the injured duo of Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne. Jurgen Klopp will have a decision to make in attack regarding Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino.
Maribor v Liverpool- Summary
We don’t expect this to be a particularly high-scoring game, but if Liverpool can edge ahead early, they should be able to hold on for victory.
F88 Summary– Liverpool to win
